Overview
Noncommuniocable diseases (NCDs) are major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide and are a major challenge for public health. Population-based surveys, as part of a surveillance plan for NCDs, are essential to identify and monitor health profiles; the distribution, incidence, and prevalence of risk factors; and health inequalities. This commentary describes the implementation of the VIGITEL surveillance program, an annual telephone survey that provides recent national estimates of self-reported health behaviors and risk factors for NCDs.
