Overview
Remote sensing has facilitated extraordinary advances in the modeling, mapping, and understanding of ecosystems. Lidar, or laser altimetry, is an alternative remote sensing technology that promises to both increase the accuracy of biophysical measurements and extend spatial analysis into the third dimension. Lidar can accurately estimate vegetation structural attributes and should be of particular interest to ecologists.
