Overview
E. M. Forster believed all his life that \"the true history of the human race is the history of human affection\" (Moffat 2010, 320) and he maintained a utopian faith in the possibilities of human love. During the last decade of his life, he fell in love with a new foreigner. At King's College where he had lived since 1946 he wrote to Mattei that the company was \"small, aged, loquacious and boring\"4 Forster was aged, gay, lonely and lacking a partner. After detention in Barlinnie prison, he lived in an Orwellian house for the destitute in London with over 1000 rooms, working as an orderly in Whittington Hospital.
