Overview
Six recent basal series were examined & compared to books used in older studies to find evidence of improvement in the portrayal of female characters. A content analysis was conducted & the results showed that sexism had been reduced & neutral characters created. It is concluded that it is important to create nonsexist basals because students gain attitudes as well as knowledge from reading basal stories. 4 Figures, 14 References. C. Backhaus
