Overview
Creativity comes into play in human activities most notably in circumstances of crisis and stress, it is a response to difficult conditions, and a way of seeking solutions to, or escape from, such vicissitudes, a way of obviating or transcending suffering, a new way of dealing with the world by reframing the self in relation to that world. As a general human capacity creativity is by no means confined to the sphere of ritual. Innovations in science and technology constantly emerge in response to problems of living within the environment. Yet it is a point of first importance and interest that ritual often has a crucial role to play in the creation and transformation of social relationships as opposed to the manipulation or adaptation of technology.
