درس البحث شخصية لها دور مهم في تاريخ إيطاليا، المتمثلة بدانتي اليجييري الذي كان فيلسوف وشاعر خلال القرون الوسطي، ويعد مؤسس الأدب الإيطالي الحديث. اشتهر دانتي بكتاب الكوميديا الإلهية، الذي يعد من أشهر الأعمال الأدبية الإيطالية على مر التاريخ. وأن لحياة وأعمال دانتي تأثيرا كبيرا جدا وحاسما في بناء الهوية الإيطالية وفي الثقافة الحديثة بشكل عام. إذ عد العديد من الكتاب والمثقفين الكوميديا الإلهية وغيرها من أعمال دانتي بمثابة إلهام للموضوع واللغة المعبرة.
