تهدف هذه الورقة إلى التعريف بالمتحف وبعلم المتاحف وما المقصود بالتراث المادي، وتصنيف عناصر التراث المادي، والتعريف بمتحف التراث المادي، وتستعرض التجارب المختلفة لإنشاء متاحف التراث المادي في السودان وتقييمها، كما تقدم أيضا التعريف بمتحف السودان القومي للإثنوغرافيا وتاريخه، وتستعرض محتويات مقتنيات المتحف وتقسيمها وآليات وفلسفة العرض الداخلي للقطع المتحفية والتطورات التي حدثت في المتحف في تغيير فلسفة العرض، ومن ثم تقدم رؤية تقييمية لمتحف الإثنوغرافيا والمستقبل الذي يجب أن يكون عليه من واقع دراسة المتحف ومناهج ونظريات علوم متاحف التراث، حتى يكون مواكبا لمتاحف التراث العالمية، ويؤدي دوره التربوي والتعليمي والتثقيفي ليكون له دور رائد في صون التراث السوداني.
