ناقش هذا البحث موقف ابن طفيل من الدين عموما، ومن التعددية الدينية خصوصا، وكان لابد إذن من تناول طبيعة المعرفة الدينية عنده وأشكال الوصول إليها، وكل ذلك من خلال قصته الشهيرة وهي قصة حي بن يقظان التي أظهر فيها ابن طفيل أشكال هذه المعرفة وتعددها وطرقها، ولهذا فقد تناولنا مفهوم التعددية الدينية اصطلاحا ولغة، أي كيف تم تعريفها في المعاجم والأدبيات الفلسفية الغربية والعربية، وبعد ذلك ناقش البحث دور التعددية في فكر ابن طفيل، وكان الهدف من ذلك الوصول إلى مناقشة مفهوم النجاة في فلسفة ابن طفيل، التي يمكن أن نجده في جميع أشكال التدين وطرق الوصول إلى هذه النجاة.
