Overview
سميت هذه المنطقة ببلاد المشرق الإسلامي في ذلك الوقت لأن عاصمة الدولة العباسية في ذلك الوقت كانت بغداد؛ لذلك ضم المشرق الإسلامي هذه البلاد التي تقع شرق بغداد؛ وضم أقاليم أذربيجان في الشمال الغربي، وفارس في الجنوب الغربي، وسجستان في الجنوب الشرقي، وخراسان في الشمال الشرقي، وأول من ذكر حدود المشرق الإسلامي هو ابن رسته في كتابه الأعلاق النفيسة، حيث قسم الكرة الأرضية أربع أقسام؛ وكان الربع الأول هو ربع المشرق الإسلامي؛ وكان يبدأ من بغداد، ثم يتجه نحو كل من الجبل وأذربيجان وقزوين وزنجان وقم وأصبهان والري، وطبرستان وجرجان، وسجستان وخراسان وما اتصل بخراسان من التبت وتركستان.
