تهدف هذه المقالة إلى مقارنة منهجية معالجة المصادر التاريخية التقليدية والمصادر الدفينة لموضوع التسلية والترفيه. حيث تناولت المصادر التقليدية هذا الموضوع في إطار الأخبار السياسية، مع تركيزها على تسلية وترفيه الأمراء والسلاطين، وما يدور في البلاطات والحواضر الحضرية. في المقابل، انبثقت المصادر الدفينة من واقع العامة والمهمشين فتحدثت بلغتهم، وعكست نماذج من أشكال التسلية والترفيه التي عايشوها.
