Overview
تنتمي دلالات المفردات إلى اللغة، لا إلى الخطاب. وجُلُّ مفردات اللغة متعددة الدلالات؛ فلا تتساوى هذه الدلالات بين لغة وأخرى. ولا يكون التكافؤ في الترجمة إلا بالنظر إلى مقاصد القول وأغراض المتخاطبين. فليست السماتُ الدلالية لهذه المفردات، ذاتية لازمة، واجتماعية لاحقة، هي التي تحدّد المعنى، وتحدّد مقاصد القول، بل أن المعنى ومقصد القول هو الذي يتحكم في دلالة المفردات، ويوجهها في هذه الوجهة أو في تلك، حتى في أسماء المواليد من حيوان ونبات ومعدن وغير ذلك. ولا تتبيَّن هذه المقاصد والأغراض إلا بالنظر إلى ظروف الخطاب.
