في عام 1939 نشر الفيلسوف والكاتب الفرنسي جان بور سارتر مقاله الشهير \"السيد فرانسوا مورياك والحرية\". نقد فيه بشدة تقنية السرد عند مواطنه الروائي المعروف فرانسوا مورياك وخاصة حرية الشخصية الروائية وتدخل الكاتب في مصير شخوصه. أراد سارتر أن يظهر نفسه في هذا المقال النصير للحداثة الناشئة في حين أراد أن يجعل من مورياك روائيا كلاسيكيا متشبثا بأسلوب التحليل النفسي الذي بدأ بالتراجع آنذاك. في ضوء تليلنا لهذا المقال تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى الرد على الأسئلة التالية: ما هي الأوجه الأساسية لهذا النقد؟ في أية رواية لمورياك وجد سارتر هذا النقص في الحرية الممنوحة للشخصية؟ ومن هي هذه الشخصية التي كانت ضحية الحرمان من الحرية؟ هل كان سارتر محقا في نقده لمورياك من وجهة نظر مختلف النقاد؟ هل كان لفلسفة سارتر الوجودية أثرها في هذا النقد؟ هل أن تدين مورياك وأخلاقيته كانت وراء تهجم سارتر عليه؟ وبالمقابل ماذا كان يبغي مورياك من هذه التقنية في السرد؟ هل أن للجانب الأخلاقي والوعظي دور في أسلوبه السردي؟ الإجابة عن هذه الأسئلة وغيرها نجدها في سياق هذه الدراسة
