تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى محاولة الإحاطة بمفهوم الالتزام بما هو المفهوم المتطور النامي في ظل المذاهب الفكرية والأدبية الحديثة، مؤكدة أنه مصطلح جديد في ميدان الأدب، لم يستخدمه الأقدمون ولم يعرفوه، لأن الالتزام الحقيقي هو وليد الوعي، ومظهر من مظاهر النهضة والتقدم.nثم تتجاوز ذلك إلى استعراضه كموضوع فلسفي وإيديولوجي مهم تتوقف عند بكثير من العمق والجد والرصانة أبرز الفلسفات الحديثة لاسيما الماركسية والوجودية معتبرة إياه نقطة تحول خطير في تاريخ النظر النقدي وفلسفة الفن بصفة عامة، متسائلة عن علاقته بالحرية والثورة والتحرر
