Overview
جمع ابن مضاء بين علوم متنوعة، كان ذاكرًا لمسائل الفقه عارفًا بأصوله، حافظًا للغات، بصيرًا بالنحو، مجتهدًا في أحكام العربية، ومما عرف به أيضًا هو ثورته على النحو ودعوته وطموحه إلى إقامة نحو جديد وفق تصوراته ومذهبه المتبع، وقد اتضح ذلك جليًا في مؤلفاته أهمها وأبرزها هو كتابه الرد على النحاة. ومن بين أهم الأسس التي قامت عليها ثورته في مؤلفه هي إلغاء نظرية العامل واعتراضه على العوامل المحذوفة، ثم دعوته إلى إلغاء القياس، ومطالبته بإلغاء كل ما لا يفيد نطقًا، وأيضًا دعوته بضرورة إلغاء التمارين غير العملية. وبالرغم من كل إسهاماته وصفت ثورته بالعقم لدى القدماء، ولكنها لاقت اهتمامًا كبيرًا من المحدثين.
