Espaces définitoires polémiques et construction éthotique dans la lutte contre les féminicides : une analyse du compte Instagram Collages Féminicides Paris

Overview

In this article, I will use the theoretical and methodological framework of French discourse analysis and the theory of argumentation in discourse to analyse a radical discourse, that of the Instagram account Collages Féminicides Paris (CFP), dedicated to the publication of feminist collages on the eponymous theme. The analysis will be developed in two parts. In the first part, I will look at the ethotic construction produced by the polemical definitions of the notion of “feminicide”, the meaning of which is worked out in opposition to the usual expectations. The problematic nature of the word “feminicide” stems from the groups attack on cisnormativity, namely the perspective that constructs “ ‘cisgender bodies’ as part of the social norm, and ‘trans bodies’ as bodies outside the norm” (Bottici 2023 [2020]: 35). In this sense, CFP produces a polemical counter-definition of both the murderous gesture and the subjectivity under attack, the “woman”. In the second part, I will analyse the role of verbal violence in CFP’s discourse, in particular the threat against the group’s enemies and its ethotic function.
