No doubt, there were prisoners incarcerated at Jackson in the 1920S who were still there in the 1950S and who watched the procession of wardens, the opening of the new facility, the scandals, the riot, and all the other turnovers and upheavals described in this study without seeing any profound alteration in the routines of everyday life. Years slipped by and disappeared in a cadence of unremitting sameness.
