Za vznikem premisy o negativním postoji kurie k novému médiu stojí nejen srovnání s progresivitou reformačních vůdců ve vztahu ke knihtisku, ale i výrazné soustředění katolické kurie na represivní oblast dobové knižní kultury - tj. kontrolu italského knižního obchodu, na kterou se kurie zaměřovala již od konce 15. století. Paolo Sachet díky nově objeveným pramenům provedl pro tento \"řecký experiment\" excelentní mikroanalýzu, která osvětluje fungování celého projektu včetně jeho financování a individuální role jednotlivých aktérů. Po této zkušenosti Cervini rezignoval na trvalé spojení s konkrétní tiskárnou a pro své záměry flexibilně využíval různé tiskaře, a to i mimo Řím (Benátky, Boloňa, Florencie) a Itálii (Kolín nad Rýnem, Basilej a Paříž). Dalším charakteristickým příkladem zdlouhavé realizace bylo i první oficiální vydání katolické Vulgáty, kterou tridentský koncil určil jako jedinou povolenou verzi bible.
