ABSTRACT IN FRENCH: L'article fondé sur des entretiens réalisés avec des patients et des chirurgiens finlandais analyse comment, dans notre culture, les signes de l'âge sont perçus comme les révélateurs d'émotions socialement indésirables telles que la fatigue ou l'irritation. La « chirurgie esthétique de l'âge », en les modifiant, les gommant ou les atténuant, dissocie les signes de l'âge des affects négatifs dont ils étaient supposés témoigner. La généralisation des opérations de chirurgie esthétique a ainsi modifié les idées que l'on se fait du vieillissement normal. // ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH: The article analyses `age surgery' as a way to manipulate the bodily representations of emotions. It is based on the interviews of Finnish patients and plastic surgeons. It argues that marks of ageing have become synonymous with undesirable emotions, such as unhappiness and irritation. Thus, cosmetic surgery is used to reconstruct socially accepted emotions associated with youth. The article shows how age surgery has created new standards for the ideally aged body. // ABSTRACT IN GERMAN: Dieser Artikel, der sich auf Interviews mit Patienten finnischer Chirurgen stützt, zeigt dass in unserer Kultur die Anzeichen des Alters als sozial unerwünschte Gefühle wie Erschöpfung oder Reizung wahrgenommen werden. Die Schönheitschirurgie behandelt diese Anzeichen und löst, modifiziert oder verwischt (vermeintlich) die mit ihnen assoziierten negativen Effekte. Dabei verändert sich durch die Selbstverständlichkeit solcher chirurgischen Eingriffe auch die Vorstellung eines normalen Alterungsprozesses.
