Overview
In the morning my mom didn't say a word to me about it, though she acted very distant and distracted. [Julie] told me later that while I was showering, my mom had approached her and asked what had happened last night. Julie responded with a halting explanation of how she and I had fallen asleep and were startled awake when my mom walked in. My mother never said anything to me about the incident, but began to actively hate Julie. Though I was walking on air after coming out to my father, I was still terrified of telling my mom. Gee ([Cher]'s sister [Georgeann]) encouraged me to tell my mom; I dreaded it. With my dad, I was scared, but wanted to tell him because I thought it would make us closer; I had more trust in our relationship. But I thought telling my mom would have the opposite effect, that it would drive us further apart. I just didn't want her to know and felt compelled to hide it from her. We avoided the subject by mutual consent: I didn't want to deal, and she didn't want to deal.
