Overview
\"There's a little bit of me left in Alberta and I want to have a lot of me in Alberta, because I would like every excuse to come back home,\" he says. \"So now what I'm doing is concentrating on letting everybody know I really want to serve Albertans and I'm now entering in any competition for buildings in Alberta because I miss it.\" Parkland County and Spruce Grove have three of Douglas Cardinal's distinctively curvy architectural creations. He designed Spruce Grove's city hall and a public high school in the early 1980s. The architect also started building his own fantastical residence on his family's farm in Parkland County around the same time, but couldn't complete it because he had to devote all his energy to the Museum of Civilization. The Cardinals lived in a homestead on the farm from 1971 until they moved to Ottawa. Douglas Cardinal never expected to leave Alberta and was looking to plant his roots in Parkland County when he designed the house.
