Overview
Construction projects now require many more work hours per dollar of investment. Despite a widespread adoption of new information technology, the construction industry's IT applications generally run in stand-alone mode, discouraging improvements in collaboration. Loathe to assume risks, many project owners rarely demand designers and contractors to use new, collaborative IT. Ironically, the owners end up paying for costly and time-consuming design changes during construction. Fortunately, the Internet may significantly enhance the industry's collaborative use of computers. Already, designers can work with three-dimensional computer models that can be viewed and shared with browsers.
