يتحدث الكتاب عن النبي المنبوذ حيث حين قرأ تروتسكي الحوار الذي دار بين سفير فرنسا لدى الرايخ الثالث وهتلر قبل الحرب العالمية الثانية مباشرة وتخوف الرجلين من أن يكون المنتصر الأخير في حرب طويلة ورهيبة بدت نذرها آنذاك على الأبواب وهو تروتسكي بوجه التحديد حين قرأ ذلك الحوار كتب \"إنهم يهجسون بشبح الثورة ويعطونه اسم رجل\" وبالفعل لم تقترن صورة الثورة في التاريخ باسم رجل قدر ما اقترنت باسم تروتسكي حتى في الفترة التي صوره دويتشر فيها مشردا منبوذا.
