يتناول الكتاب الترجمة والتأويل والتقويل حيث تعني الترجمة إما مسار تحويل نص منطلق (الأصل) إلى نص وصول (الترجمة) وإما ناتج هذا التحويل بعبارة أخرى وتحيل الترجمة على عملية أو ناتج فالنص كناتج هو موضوع تقييم وليس المسار الإدراكي في الفهم وإعادة التصور السابق لإنجاز الترجمة والذي يتفق على ثلاث ترجمات كما يرى (ياكوبسون 1963) والتي تشتمل على ما يلي لغة مثلا التعبير عن رسالة في نفس اللغة، ولغة مثلا نقل رسالة من لغة إلى أخرى، وعلامية مثلا تحويل شفرة إلى شفرة إلى أخرى.
