يذكر المؤلف في هذا الكتاب الفيوم باسم المدينة وهو الاسم الذي كان يطلق عليها من الجميع، سكان وإدارة حكومية، متمثلة في الكاتب كممثل لسلطة الدولة الأيوبية بصفته التي نسميها اليوم محافظ الفيوم، ومدينة الفيوم حالية تحاول مواكبة العصر الحديث فانتشرت المباني الحديثة من مستشفيات ومدرس وكليات وأندية ورياضية ومحال وأسواق تجارية وكذلك تحاول الحفاظ على التراث القديم خصوصا فيما يتعلق بماضيها الزراعي بدءا من القنوات والترع وخصوصا السواقي التي اشتهرت بها الفيوم أكثر من أية منطقة أخرى.
