هذا الكتاب شاهد على عناية العربي بالكتاب والمكتبة منذ بداياتنا الأولى في الجاهلية وحتى اليوم، ففي العصر العباسي، وقد صار الكتاب موضع اهتمام خاص، هو والمكتبة، تكونت صناعات وفنون وعلوم للكتاب منها التدوين والنسخ، الوراق والوراقون، الفهرسة والتصنيف، الترجمة والتأليف، في تلك المرحلة الزاهرة من حياتنا نشأ العلم العربي والفلسفة العربية، وتعددت المدارس والجامعات والمكتبات الخاصة والعامة حتى في المشافي، وما تزال المخطوطات العربية المنثورة اليوم بالألوف في عواصم العالم والتي ترقى إلى العصور العباسية وقبلها وبعدها، شاهدا أمينا على عناية العرب بثقافتهم التي صارت يومها ثقافة العالم والإنسانية.
