Enhance Volunteering Education Through Overseas Volunteer Service
2021
This study aimed to determine how the learning stimulation and intrinsic motivation of students affect their culture sharing in volunteering via general altruism and intention. Stratified random sampling was used, and 850 invitation questionnaires were sent to participants, of whom 264 returned valid questionnaires (return rate, 31.06%), which were analyzed with the partial least squares method. It was found that students’ intrinsic motivation for overseas volunteering increases their understanding of global issues. Thus, schools or organizations should develop a mechanism for volunteering students to interact with others within a professional virtual community in order to enhance their volunteering experience and inspire their continuous learning from overseas volunteering.

Study on the Removal of Nitrogen-containing Waste outside the Aquaculture Pond by the Method of Electric Flocculation and Quasi Circulating Aquaculture
When the waste containing ammonia nitrogen is removed by electric flocculation circulating aquaculture, not only the colloidal impurities and suspended impurities are coagulated and precipitated, but also a variety of pollutants and bacteria in the water can be removed due to the oxidation of the anode and the reduction of the cathode. In this project, PWM (pulse width modulation) technology is used to overcome the power consumption problem of traditional electric flocculation method, high-voltage pulse and anode-cathode pole exchange technology is used to overcome the iron consumption and plate passivation problem, and echelon potential method is used to solve the difficulty of plate exchange. Compared with the traditional chemical and biological treatment technology, electrocoagulation can ensure the sustainable development of aquaculture without adding oxidants, flocculants and other chemicals. At present, electronic technology and Internet of things technology are used in aquaculture fields to monitor the water quality data in the pond and control the growth of aquaculture organisms in the most suitable environment in real time, so as to increase income, reduce human power and save water and electricity. Therefore, with mature sensing technology, IOT, Im, cloud computing, big data and AI, we can build an intelligent aquaculture production, marketing and digital service system to improve the overall production efficiency, energy and quality, and accelerate the transformation of aquaculture industry.

2013
Objective:
To determine the effect of therapist-based constraint-induced therapy at home on motor performance, daily function and reaching control for children with cerebral palsy.
Design:
A single-blinded, randomized controlled trial.
Subjects:
Forty-seven children (23 boys; 24 girls) with unilateral cerebral palsy, aged 6–12 years, were randomized to constraint-induced therapy (n = 24) or traditional rehabilitation (n = 23).
Interventions:
Constraint-induced therapy involved intensive functional training of the more affected arm while the less affected arm was restrained. Traditional rehabilitation involved functional unilateral and bilateral arm training. Both groups received individualized therapist-based interventions at home for 3.5–4 hours/day, two days a week for four weeks.
Main measures:
Motor performance and daily function were measured by the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale, Second Edition and the Pediatric Motor Activity Log. Reaching control was assessed by the kinematics of reaction time, movement time, movement unit and peak velocity.
Results:
There were larger effects in favour of constraint-induced therapy on motor performance, daily function, and some aspects of reaching control compared with traditional rehabilitation. Children receiving constraint-induced therapy demonstrated higher scores for Peabody Developmental Motor Scale, Second Edition – Grasping (pretest mean ± SD, 39.9 ± 3.1; posttest, 44.1 ± 2.8; P < 0.001), Pediatric Motor Activity Log (pretest, 1.8 ± 0.3; posttest, 2.5 ± 0.3; P < 0.001) and shorter reaction time, normalized movement time (P < 0.001) and higher peak velocity (P = 0.004) of reaching movement.
Conclusions:
Constraint-induced therapy induced better grasping performance, daily function, and temporal and spatiotemporal control of reaching in children with unilateral cerebral palsy than traditional rehabilitation.

Job Demand, Emotional Awareness, and Job Satisfaction in Internships: The Moderating Effect of Social Support
2009
This study was aimed at determining how job demand and emotional awareness affect the job satisfaction of students. Internships are vital for hospitality students because they allow them to experience real job situations while they are in school, thus providing them with realistic expectations
about their careers. Participants were 632 Taiwanese undergraduates of hospitality internships who were recruited using a mailed questionnaire survey. The model and hypotheses were tested using a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. Results indicated that emotional job demand and emotional
awareness were positively associated with emotional display rules, and emotional display rules were positively associated with job satisfaction, with social support playing a moderating role.

A 31-bp variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism of the cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) gene was earlier reported in Caucasians of predominantly European descent and Indo-Caucasoid populations. We report here for the first time, the detection of allele 20, which was absent in Caucasian and Indo-Caucasoid populations, as a common allele present in Singaporean Chinese (6.25%), Indians (11.7%), and Malays (11.5%). Hence, allele 20 might be a specific allele for Asian populations. A relatively common allele 19 found in the Caucasian and Indo-Caucasoid populations (10.4%–10.6%) was absent in the Asian samples of this study. Therefore, allele 19 might be a specific allele for the Caucasian populations. A novel and rare allele 13, which was not reported before in the Caucasian and Indo-Caucasoid populations, was found in 0.5% of Singaporean Chinese as genotype 13/17 heterozygotes. The presence of alleles 13 and 20 were verified by DNA sequencing. There were five new genotypes (13/17, 16/20, 17/20, 18/20 and 20/20) not reported before in the Caucasian and Indo-Caucasoid populations, detected in this study. Nine genotypes (15/18, 16/18, 16/21, 17/19, 18/19, 18/21, 19/19, 19/21 and 21/21) which were present in the Caucasian and/or Indo-Caucasoid populations were absent in this study. Our results showed that CBS 31-bp VNTR polymorphism has a distinct genetic difference in allele and genotype frequencies between the European Caucasians, Indo-Caucasoid and Asian populations.

Exploration of Studying while Working Part-Time Simultaneously with 15 Indonesian Students in Taiwan: A Public University Case Study
2023
Purpose: This study explores the experiences of Indonesian students studying while working at Taiwanese public universities. Design/methodology/approach: Through a phenomenological research approach that utilizes face-to-face interview techniques, the personal experiences of 15 Indonesian students were recorded. As a student who conducts lecture activities while working, apart from having assignments from the place of study, students also have to face problems at work. Findings: The findings from this study indicate that the main reasons from within and from outside students in carrying out learning and work activities are financial problems. Furthermore, when students devote less time to work, this causes students to divert their attention a little from the main task of learning. Research, Practical & Social implications: From these study and work activities, students get a positive impact in the form of experience and a negative impact in the form of fatigue and problems with their time.

Human endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) is one isoform of the nitric oxide synthases that are responsible for nitric oxide synthesis from
l
-arginine. The gene encoding eNOS contains a 27-bp VNTR polymorphism in intron 4. We report here for the first time the presence of a novel allele 3, which was absent in all other populations studied to date, in 1.7% each of Singaporean Indians and Malays. We also detected the presence of a novel genotype 3/5 in 3.4% each of Singaporean Indians and Malays. Allele 6, which was absent in Han Chinese from northern China and Taiwan and was also absent in Indians from the Indian subcontinent, was found in 2.1% of Singaporean Chinese and in 0.3% of Singaporean Indians.

gene contains a C to A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at position −607 (C−607A) within the promoter region, which was found to affect the promoter activity and subsequently the protein level of IL-18. We investigated this SNP in a group of healthy Singaporeans and found that CA was the most common genotype and the C allele was more prevalent than the A allele, which was not always the case in other ethnic groups. In addition, Singaporean Chinese were significantly different from Singaporean Indians in both allelic and genotypic distributions. Furthermore, significant deviations from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium of this SNP were found in all three ethnic groups studied (Chinese, Indians, and Malays) and also in other published literature, suggesting that heterozygotes of this

The 12-year Basic Education, which is a revolutionary policy on education, plays a pivotal role in how students feel disturbed in school because of the different systems of admission. To tackle this topic, this study surveyed 16,921 students from the \"Taiwan Upper Secondary Database (TUSD)\" and compared exam-free admission as well as recommendation and screening-based admission with propensity score matching (PSM). Results revealed that the students of recommendation and screening-based admission have more difficulty in efficacious learning than those of exam-free admission. The former performs poorly in academic subjects while displaying special talents in the subjects of skills. Hence, once they enter academic and vocational high schools, they feel disturbed because their schools increase the ratio of academic subjects. The differences between the two groups of students in their difficulty in learning and the reasons for the difficulty are worthy of attention. On the one hand, junior high schools should pro
