Dalton makes most of his first start for Cowboys
\"I told everyone that once we're on the court, we're just out here playing,\" he said. \"We just went out and did what we needed to do.\" [Dalton]'s 3-pointer with 15 minutes, 49 seconds to play broke a 0 of 10 streak dating back to the Nov. 28 home game against Montana State. It also tied the game at 38. \"They're two really solid players. They're big and strong,\" Dalton said. \"I just tried to stay low and use my base, and my teammates were helping me with switches. I just tried to do as much as I can.\" UW coach Larry Shyatt said he knew UW would be at a disadvantage inside strength and experience-wise against New Mexico. But he said Dalton and a lot of other players made up for their shortcomings in another way. \"Nobody plays a perfect game, and I've been there, done that the last two games,\" [Josh Adams] said. \"I'd like to think we forced (the turnover). It was a tough play for him, and we capitalized on it.\" Quotable \"Unbelievable. No one could stop him. He was pulling up from deep, going to the rack, getting fouled, getting others involved and being patient,\" UW sophomore guard Jeremy Lieberman about Adams, who was 10 of 15 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line.
Cowboys seek return to form
\"We closed it out,\" said [Josh Adams], who scored a game-high 23 points and had team bests with six rebounds and four assists. \"We executed and made plays you don't see on the score sheet.\" One of those plays was made by junior guard Jason McManamen , who drew an offensive foul in the final seconds. \"I played terrible defense, and a lot of the older guys played terrible defense,\" Adams said about the first Montana State game. \"We corrected that (against CSU Bakersfield). We can't be lackadaisical on defense, and we must bring that (today).\" Adams scored a career-high 36 points against the Bobcats last week. UW also made 12 3-pointers and shot 53.3 percent from the field. \"We can't take away everything, but we have to decide what we can and what we can control,\" UW coach Larry Shyatt said. \"The second time around is a give-and-take situation. Do you change a lot or little? Do you change matchups.
Cowboys need Adams' scoring against Aggies
Both lack prolific scorers - aside from [Josh Adams]' recent spree. He is the Cowboys' leading scorer (among available players) at 12.9 points per contest. Texas A&M junior guard Jamal Jones averages 13.6. This is UW's 26th postseason appearance. Its all-time record is 18-30, and 2-3 in the CBI. ... Four of the Cowboys' previous five CBI games were decided by single digits and three by a single basket. ... Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy's name came up as a candidate at UW after the school fired Heath Schroyer in 2011. Kennedy was a graduate assistant at UW during the 1987-88 season for coach Benny Dees. ... The Cowboys have committed 10 or fewer turnovers in seven straight games.
Perfect Pokes
\"No, I didn't call it,\" Washington laughed. \"But, hey, lucky shots go in. I think it helped spark the whole team.\" \"I don't think it hurt us at all tonight,\" UW coach Larry Shyatt said of [Luke Martinez]'s absence. \"People who embrace adversity find a way to become better and hopefully, this team found a way to become better (Wednesday). \"It's an amazing feat,\" [Josh Adams] said. \"I'm just privileged to be a part of it. But as far as we're concerned, even though it's 13-0, it's just on to the next one.\"
UW mens hoops gamer
\"I wasn't too focused on the offense. I just kind of let it come to me,\" [Gilmore] said. \"I just wanted to do the right things on defense. That helps lead to the offense.\" \"It was my first game in a long time so I had a lot of rust on me,\" Washington said. \"I told Derek (Cooke) before the game that I was really nervous. It felt really good getting back out there with all my teammates.\" said. \"They (the team) were prepared for it. We've got three games coming up this week and we'll probably have a little looser rotation with three straight games.\"
Florida edges Rhode Island for series sweep
\"I knew today was not going to be easy,\" O'[Sullivan] said. \"Rhode Island has a really good club offensively. It is not going to surprise me to see them in a (NCAA) regional. Absolutely, I am pleased with the outcome of the weekend, for sure.\" \"It is a frustrating thing up to that point, up until [Josh Adams]'s hit, I think we left 12 stranded,\" said O'Sullivan, whose team left eight runners on base through three innings. \"I think if you did that 10 times in a row, you probably lose nine out of 10. \"Leaving that many runners on base, we got lucky,\" Adams said. \"Against really good teams, they are going to take advantage of that, and we'd be lucky to come out with a win if we leave that many runners stranded again.
Gators top Gamecocks, capture SEC crown
Of all people, Florida's No. 9 hitter, Josh Adams -- who was hitting .216 coming in -- is the one that got [Sam Dyson] (5-5) and the Gamecocks. From there, the Gamecocks ran into Florida's staunch bullpen again. The Gators, who held USC to one run in 5 2/3 innings Thursday, kept South Carolina off the board in the final 3 2/3 innings Friday. The Gamecocks haven't hosted a regional since 2007. They'll do that, but they haven't hosted a super regional since 2004 -- the school's last trip to the College World Series.
Campbellford Rebels captain named league's top rookie
\"It's pretty cool,\" said [Josh Adams], who noted that Cobourg native and Stanley Cup champion Justin Williams was a previous winner of the award. \"Not a lot of kids from around here win it.\" \"If I didn't make Junior C, I might be playing in a men's league,\" he said with a chuckle. \"I was definitely disappointed when I was cut from Port Hope, (but) I showed everyone I can go.\" \"Having the 'C' on my chest, I took care of a lot of things a rookie usually wouldn't,\" he said. \"I just led by example. I'm usually a pretty calm hockey player, (so) it was just my presence.\"
