RICH GETS 23 LEADING LOS ALAMOS OVER TAOS
With Los Alamos center Chris Jackson sitting on the bench with a bit of foul trouble for much of the first half, someone else had to step up for the Hilltoppers on Wednesday against Taos. Taos' defense shook the 'Toppers some in the first half, but Los Alamos (12-5 overall, 2-1 2AAAA) was able to avoid the pressure in the second half. Santa Fe Prep 74, Questa 55: Transition basketball was the name of the game, and no one did it better than Santa Fe Preparatory's Justin Conway in the nondistrict win over the Wildcats (7-10).
Los Alamos Gets Best of Santa Fe High, 63-56
Sporting perhaps the state's best player in senior center Chris Jackson, Los Alamos also has one of the most versatile swingmen in 6- foot-5 senior Brandon Rich. With nine seniors on its roster, Los Alamos is among the preseason favorites to take the Class AAAA crown a year after taking the AAA title. Los Alamos would eventually reclaim the lead at 56-55 when senior Tim Johnson sank a pair of free throws with 2:40 left. It was a lead Los Alamos wouldn't surrender. Santa Fe was held without a field goal in the final 5:12 of the game. Game Notes: Los Alamos sported brand-new black road uniforms during the game. Dumping its traditional green uniforms from a year ago, the Hilltoppers also wore predominantly black warm-ups during pregame drills. The Demons' C-Team hammered the Hilltoppers 83-39, while Santa Fe's junior varsity overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a dramatic 49-48 triumph.

JACKSON ISN'T HILLTOPPERS' ONLY BIG MAN
The rich, as in Brandon Rich, is a 6-5 swingman and the team's second-leading scorer behind [Chris Jackson], and he can change the complexion of a game in a hurry. Rich is one of the most versatile players on a team that boasts two overpowering post players in Jackson and 6-6 Tim Johnson. Los Alamos can easily take over the paint with its height. When the defense extended to contest his shots, Rich dumped the ball in to Jackson and Johnson for easy layups. Jackson finished with 18 points. Johnson had nine.
