CA Technologies Addresses U.S. Congress on Cloud Computing Security, Opportunities and Risks
WASHINGTON, Oct. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While both the hype and promise surrounding cloud computing continue to accelerate at a rapid pace, confusion still remains about what exactly cloud computing is and the risks and benefits associated with transitioning to cloud-based environments. While corporate and governmental organizations across the globe want to reap the cost, performance and agility benefits of cloud computing, they are wary of potential risks. \"CA Technologies believes that the responsibility for securing the cloud lies with both the providers and the consumers of cloud solutions. The cloud is neither inherently more nor less secure than other IT services and solutions,\" [Tim Brown] testified. \"Generalized concerns over cloud security on the one hand, and arguments that the security risks in the cloud are overblown on the other hand, have muddied the waters to the point that policymakers and practitioners are experiencing security schizophrenia. Should I overlook legitimate security concerns and plunge headfirst into the cloud, or should fear and uncertainty of these risks stop me from doing anything that even remotely resembles cloud computing? Like most responsible decisions, the answer lies somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.\" CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) is an IT management software and solutions company with expertise across IT environments - from mainframe and distributed, to virtual and cloud. CA Technologies manages and secures IT environments and enables customers to deliver more flexible IT services. CA Technologies innovative products and services provide the insight and control essential for IT organizations to power business agility. The majority of the Global Fortune 500 relies on CA Technologies to manage evolving IT ecosystems. For additional information, visit CA Technologies at www.ca.com.

Ind. lawmakers might make guns in schools optional
An armed employee, [Jim Lucas] believes, could have prevented the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut in December that killed 20 students and six adults. Lucas' proposal mirrored a National Rifle Association-sponsored study released the same day recommending schools across the nation train and arm at least one staff member -- a response to fears about mass school shootings. \"As a principal, I cannot imagine any of my staff having to concentrate on all of the activities to keep the students learning and moving forward and engaged and having an additional responsibility of firing a weapon,\" said Carol Craig, a retired Indianapolis Public Schools teacher and principal.
Ind. could be first to require armed school employees
\"Basically, these people were defenseless,\" [Jim Lucas] said. \"We know for a fact that Sandy Hook, they did everything by the book. The school was locked down, the shooter came in, broke dozens of laws and shot his way into the school.\" \"It bears study,\" [Vernon Smith] said. \"We don't want any of our children or any of our employees to die from gunfire. But this is just a knee-jerk decision.\" \"Because schools are a very vulnerable target,\" he said, \"anything to increase safety is very welcome.\"
Myers holds on to win at Stadium: Brown second, Miller third in USG Modified 50
\"I went out to get my qualifying award and I came back and we had drawn the pole,\" [Myers] said. \"So maybe that was some karma coming around.\" \"[Tim Brown] might could have knocked me out of the way a time or two but he didn't, and I don't forget stuff like that,\" Myers said. \"We're good friends.\" Brown said: \"We had a great car. I was better than him in places but it's one of those deals I haven't been in the front so long that second place is good. Plus, me and Burt are pretty tight so I wasn't going to knock him out to win it.\"
Phoenix rise late to sink United; Gold Coast United's A-League finals hopes sank further on Sunday night as a late Tim Brown header delivered Wellington Phoenix a 1-0 victory
Just before [Tim Brown]'s 88th-minute header, Wellington was ruing a golden chance that fell to substitute James Downey after a shocking defensive error by Jonas Salley, but young Coast stopper Jerrad Tyson produced one of the best saves in his brief A-League career. \"I almost can't talk because I almost wet my pants after what happened,\" [Miron Bleiberg] said on Fox Sports cross after the game. \"Every goalkeeper that comes here is man of the match. It was (the Heart's Clint) Bolton last week and it was [Mark Paston] this week,\" Bleiberg said.
No Glory for Phoenix centurion Brown
The Perth Glory deserved their 1-0 victory over the Phoenix says Tim Brown, who missed out on celebrating a century of games for his club with a win.
SOC:Glory and Phoenix want win in Brown's 100
The Phoenix are looking to celebrate the club's first A-League centurion - midfielder Tim Brown - with the simple reward of a win against the struggling Perth side. \"Complacency can provide a number of upsets. We can't afford to be that at all. The league is extremely tight and if you are not going to step up and perform you are vulnerable,\" [Ricki Herbert] said. \"I think he's a heart on his sleeve kind of boy and is very passionate for the club. He's developed into a midfield player that gets forward and scores goals.\"
Brown snares vital point for Phoenix
Just as [Wellington] looked to be heading for an inglorious defeat that could have ruled them out of semi-finals contention, [Tim Brown] scored an 83rd-minute tap in to revive the Phoenix's A-League campaign. Velaphi, and the under-fire Perth defence made amends in the closing stages as Wellington's frenetic pressure in the forward third failed to yield a winner. A victory would have been Perth's only acceptable outcome, although the Glory were ultimately luck to escape with a draw that left them in seventh on 16 points, three points adrift of the Phoenix.
