TEAMS CAN COUNT ON FAMILY'S SUPPORT
\"We would pick which games we'd go see and then go back and forth from Espanola,\" Jo Ann Martinez said. \"That normally didn't happen though.\" \"The people that sit next to us have had those same seats for the past 20 years,\" [Rick Martinez] said. \"Some of these people we'd only see during this week. It's fun because you get to catch up and see how everyone is doing.\" \"I would have liked to have seen how many fans would have shown up,\" [Chris Martinez, Rick] said. \"They've had a good following at the games and they're pretty loud. That semifinal game with Academy sounded like a Lobo game.

Letters to the Editor
Health care must change, but instead of raising taxes, let's spend taxpayer money more prudently. There should be no free rides if you are not paying into our health care plan. Insurance premiums are high because of abuse of the system and malpractice lawsuits. The American Medical Association must rid itself of incompetent physicians. Taxing us into bankruptcy isn't the answer. To the editor -- I am thoroughly disgusted with the decision not to fund Officer Chris Martinez' position in Union Gap. The Union Gap City Council's decision on this issue is simply unjustified. To the editor -- Wow! What wonderful news that the city of Yakima is rolling in the money. How else can one rationally explain Maureen Adkison and other council members voting to pay for Rick Ensey's legal fees?
BOBCATS PREPARED FOR HUSKIE CHALLENGE
This is the second meeting this year between the Huskies and Bobcats. Hope beat McCurdy 69-44 during the Huskies' holiday tournament in December. [Chris Kempes] scored 11 points in the loss. That was when the Bobcats were learning [Rick Martinez], and vice versa. Martinez contends the Bobcats are not the same team that started the season 5-10. To date, Martinez considers [McCurdy]'s district tournament semifinal win at Santa Fe Prep and last weekend's regional semifinal win at Zuni as the Bobcats' biggest wins of the season. But that will change if McCurdy picks up another win today.
Pirates Blog
Pirates owner Bob Nutting on Monday defended management's spending patterns and said he believes the team, which underperformed last season, is in position to compete in the National League Central division and return to postseason form in 2017. Nutting, who will spend the week in Bradenton, met with the players Monday morning at Pirate City and emphasized his commitment to providing the tools and resources they need to succeed. Whether that's demonstrated with a city...
Audit lays out copter overrun: Metro Fire spent at least $1.3 million after board OK'd just $340,000
Spending data contained both in a draft audit about Metro's Copter 1 program by Conklin DeDecker and in a supplementary report by Battalion Chief Chris Holbrook show at least $1.3 million was spent on equipment, parts and personnel compared with the $340,000 budget that district board members approved in 2002. Some Metro Fire board members lambasted Metro Fire Chief Rick Martinez about the copter program's costs before he retired last year, saying he and his staff deliberately lowballed the project's estimated cost to secure board approval for an uncertain venture. The Conklin DeDecker audit found Metro Fire's initial report to its board in 2004 miscategorized some costs as helicopter maintenance when those costs were part of the refurbishment - as revealed by The Bee in 2005.
