COUNCIL IRAQ RESOLUTION WITHDRAWN
2006
Deputy Mayor Tim Curtis withdrew the proposed resolution, which among other things asked the council to communicate at the state and national level Windsor's concerns over the direction of the country's policies regarding pre-emptive warfare, torture and the constitutional balance of power in the government. The resolution also called for supporting a planned withdrawal from Iraq with clear benchmarks and the restoration of multilateral relationships with former NATO allies and United Nations member states. Curtis introduced the resolution at the last council meeting, at the request of the town's human relations commission. Commission member Frank Stuart, who served in the armed forces during the Korean War, also expressed support for the resolution, which alleged that Americans were misled about weapons of mass destruction, wiretapping U.S. citizens and the use of torture on prisoners.

Going green on TV: With imagination, even older houses can be environmentally friendly
by
Hatherly, Joanne
in
Curtis, Tim
2006
\"Nice of him to tell me,\" says [Hall], 31, rolling her eyes good- naturedly. It was a good thing [Tim Curtis], 34, remembered. The producers from the show called while Curtis was away. The show in which the Curtis and Hall's home will be featured is called Code Green Canada. Spawned from a province-wide environmental home renovation show called Code Green BC, this six-part series is airing across Canada on CBC Television and on CBC Newsworld. Hall and Curtis's house is one of 12 chosen from more than 5,000 entries. More than 250 applicants came from Vancouver Island alone. Each of the contestants were given $15,000 and a little help from energy consultants to reduce their home's energy consumption. The home with the greatest reduction wins a 2006 Toyota Prius Hybrid car valued at $35,000. Code Green co-producer Daniel Leipnik says Curtis and Hall's house made it to the final round precisely because it failed to make the energy-efficiency grade. \"These houses were all chosen because they're energy pigs,\" says Leipnik. \"Their owners are pitchforking money down the drain to pay for utilities.\"
