Amy Dell's VRG Intern Experience: Creating a Vegan World
2019
Seeing the children get excited about VRG's I Love Animals and Broccoli coloring book was adorable, and made me want to work with kids. Cooking in quantity made it easy to prepare a large number of casseroles, because we chopped large amounts of the same ingredients instead of different things. The most influential project of my internship was when I worked with VRG's Nutrition Advisor, Reed Mangels, PhD, RD, on a piece for the Scientific Update column in Vegetarian Journal.

2004
The price bump by Bright House, Manatee County's dominant cable provider, takes effect March 1, several months after the company usually makes its rate adjustments. Bright House could see some competition from the area's incumbent local phone provider, Verizon, in the next few years. Verizon is in talks with both Manatee and Sarasota county officials to launch a video product that would be supported by a new fiber-optic network the company is building.

Making a Difference
2004
It's always great to find a partner, someone to help carry the load or to lend support when necessary. Bradenton's 13th Avenue Community Center has found such a partner in Bright House Networks, the area's cable television provider. According to Amy Van Dell, director of public relations for Bright House Networks, it was a tour of the community center that convinced the company to lend its support to several projects. Bright House is also a sponsor of the upcoming Champs Sports Celebrity Gala to benefit the 13th Avenue Dream Center, the agency's project to build a new center.

Goal is to have full cable service by end of the week
2004
Comcast delayed its billing cycle and then sent out statements giving customers credit in advance for \"every day we anticipated they would be out,\" said Comcast area Vice President Rod Dagenais. If customers feel they should have received a larger credit to reflect their cable-less days, they should call Comcast, he said. About 14,000 Comcast Cable customers in Charlotte were still without service Wednesday, primarily in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte, Dagenais said. That tally includes homes that have been destroyed or are too badly damaged to receive cable. The generators ran into some problems of their own, though, when some were stolen and others shut off by nearby residents who might not have liked the constant humming, Dagenais said. In addition to the power issues, a downed line has kept about 250 Comcast Cable customers out of service.

Athol Town Hall a peaceful space on snowy day
2001
The only people at Town Hall Tuesday were Amy O'Dell, Armando Rodriguez, Ms. O'Dell's 10-year-old nephew, Adam O'Dell, and Town Manager Peter Jankowski. Mr. Jankowski said the nonstop snow this winter reminds him of the weather in Gray, Maine, the community he left this year to accept the town manager job in Athol. He said his wife called from Maine this morning to tell him she was getting plowed out from the lesser but still significant snowfall people experienced there. Sgt. [Kevin Heath] said the 12-hour shifts would end at 11 if the snow subsided or the forecast was for a normal type of snowstorm. He said the reason for the long shifts was to ensure enough officers were available to handle any of the emergencies normally seen in blizzards. He said the main concern was the power going out.

Cafeteria workers enter final talks with university
2005
The union is fighting for both work and wage issues. They are against the university's attempt to remove seniority as a consideration when employees bid for new jobs. In addition, the university has eliminated several employees from participating in the union by giving them managerial titles without changing their duties, [Hillier] said. Members of the SIUE student government will join union workers in the rally. Student body President Dell Jones said many students support the rights of the workers. \"They are so sweet,\" sophomore Amy Creek said. Creek said she passes through the cafeteria line every day with her french fries and soda, and is always greeted with a smile from the cashiers.
