The author recounts his life experiences, from growing up on Chicago's South Side and living through several years of intense bullying, to his Army service in Vietnam and his acts that earned the Medal of Honor, to his life after military service and grappling with PTSD.
Meet Medal of Honor Recipient
This exciting entertainment event includes appetizers, beverage, raffles, and your favorite casino games (fun play only). All proceeds will benefit the Allen J. Lynch Medal of Honor Veteran's Foundation, which offers assistance and relief to veterans of the US Armed Forces and their immediate families. Allen J. Lynch received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Vietnam War. He also will be on hand at the event, which is sponsored by the Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein, Vernon Hills (GLMV) Chamber of Commerce.

Lynch Medal of Honor Veterans Foundation is hosting the second annual \"Swinging for the Vets\" Golf Outing from 12:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the White Deer Country Club, in Vernon Hills. The Waukegan History Museum, of the Waukegan Park District and the Waukegan Historical Society, has a new temporary exhibit titled \"Waukegan: Then & Now.\" This photography exhibit analyzes 12 historic sites in Waukegan. The self-guided exhibit showcases historic images from the historical society archives while comparing photographs of what is in the same location today. Highlights include the old Lakefront Park, historic residences, the Lake County Courthouse, and the building that preceded construction of the Genesee Theater. The exhibit will close Sept. 30. Entrance to the museum and \"Waukegan: Then & Now\" is free. The exhibit is also available in Spanish. The museum is at 1917 N. Sheridan Road in Bowen Park. It is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays, 1 to 4 p.m. For information, call the museum at (847) 336-1859.

The Grand Avenue bridge over the Tri-State Tollway will be named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Allen J. Lynch of Gurnee.

ENCINO CENTER TO GET FACE LIFT
Correction A Sept. 15 story misidentified the owner of the Courtyard Shops of Encino shopping center. Doerken Properties Inc. is the new owner. A West Los Angeles-based developer purchased the Courtyard Shops of Encino for $12 million and will soon revamp the Ventura Boulevard shopping center, the developer said Tuesday. Officials with Renovationi Properties Inc. said they like the 113,462-square-foot facility because it is in the heart of Encino's retail corridor and is close to the Ventura Freeway via White Oak Avenue and Balboa Boulevard.
