BERDNIK, FEENAN IN SPIRITED REMATCH
2016
\"I think Passaic County is ready for a change,\" [Feenan] said. \"I think people are frustrated with county taxes. They're frustrated with the rise in violence. They're frustrated with the rise in drug deaths.\" \"It's not a good ol' boys network,\" [Richard H. Berdnik] said. \"It's really about knowing who you are working with and what their abilities are.\" [Darren Woolridge] echoes the call for putting more sheriff's officers on the streets to combat crime. \"Right now, the Sheriff's Department is invisible,\" Woolridge said. \"And young people are dying on the streets. People are dying on the streets as a result of these decisions.\"

Coach keen to lift performances for Games
2007
\"The Beijing Olympics might be a bit early for [Janelle Woolridge], but the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi are a realistic goal,\" said [Richard Dryden] who was approached by Woolridge once the word spread that the former Dunedin-based coach was moving his family closer to his wife's Canterbury- based family. Woolridge will have punch far above her personal best to get to the Oceania championships, but Dryden said it was within the realms of possibility. \"She needs to lift a total of 167kg to qualify. That is a long way off her personal best of 142kg in competition but she has lifted close to 160kg in training, so she is getting close.\"

BERDNIK IN PASSAIC
2016
NAMES AND faces in this fall's campaign for Passaic County sheriff are familiar to county voters. The same names and faces were in the spotlight three years ago, when incumbent Richard Berdnik, a Democrat, squared off against Republican Frank Feenan. The only new wrinkle this time is the entrance of a third candidate. Political newcomer Darren Woolridge, a former sheriff's officer, is running as an independent. Certainly, in the race for sheriff, experience is not an issue. Berdnik and Feenan are both veterans in various capacities of law enforcement. Berdnik served nearly three decades with the Clifton Police Department before becoming sheriff, while Feenan, of Woodland Park, served about the same amount of time in the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Richard Ray Carnefix, 54, of Elkview was riding his motorcycle Sunday with a passenger, Darla Kay Hayes, 49, on Indian Creek Road near the Pinch Public Service District when he crashed into a ditch about 8:30 p.m., said Lt. Sean Crosier, a spokesman for the Kanawha Sheriff's Department. Carnefix and Hayes were thrown from the motorcycle. Deputy B.K. Howery, who was the first to arrive at the scene, found Carnefix dead at the scene. Lt. Leslie Givens with the South Charleston Fire Department said the affected air conditioning unit was in the school's basement causing the area to fill with smoke. The smoky air from the basement was then carried throughout the school by the air conditioner's duct system.
