يتناول كتاب (رسائل فارسية) والذي قامه بتأليفه (مونتسكيو) في حوالي (367) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (الرسائل الفارسية) مستعرضا المحتويات التالية : ويعد كتاب رسائل فارسية من أهم كتاباته، إذ جمع أهم العناصر التي تميز بها القرن الثامن عشر في فرنسا، فهو ينقد المجتمع الفرنسي في هذا العصر نقدا لاذعا، يستوي في ذلك نقده للحكومة والسياسة والدين، أو لعادات المجتمع نفسه من نفاق وتفاهة وتناقض واحتقار لكل ما هو أجنبي. وعلي المستوي الفني، تناول النقد الجدل الأدبي السفسطائي والتسرع في الحكم علي الأشياء والسخرية من الشعراء والأدباء المدعين. ويتجسد هذا النقد اللاذع عبر أسلوب مونتسكيو الساخر ولجوئه للتهكم الذي تشوبه المرارة أحيانا.
