تعتبر هذه الرواية مرحلة جديدة في أسلوب مورافيا الروائي بالرغم من أن موضوع الجنس يطغى عليها جميعا ولكن الجنس هنا ليس عضواً من الجسم بقدر ما هو شخصية ذات كيان يقوم بينها وبين \"الأنا\" الفرويدي صراع يعبر عن انفصام البطل \"الشيزوفرانيا\" وإلى جانب كون هذه الرواية جنسية فلسفية فهي تراجيدية كوميدية معا (فالأنا) رجل يعمل في ميدان السينما ويطمح إلى وضع سيناريو فيلم مناصر للحركة اليسارية ولكن \"الآخر\" الذي هو رغبته الجنسية يقف عقبة كأداء في سبيل تحقيق آماله بما يفرضه عليه من مطالب وهكذا تروي القصة أحداث صراع \"ريكو\" مع شخصيته.
