مجموعة من الشعراء تم اختيارهم لتمثيل إبداعات الشعر العربية منذ قبل الهجرة إلى ما بعدها .. كل شاعر يدلو بدلوه ليعكس زمنه وبيئته .. مشاعره وأحاسيسه .. وتوجهاته وليس أروع من تلك المعلقات العشر التي تم تخصيص كتاب لها، وأصحاب هذه المعلقات هم : إمرئ القيس بن حجر الكندي، طرفة بن العبد البكري، زهير بن أبي سلمى المزني، لبيد بن ربيعة العامري، عمرو بن مكثوم التغلبي، عنترة بن شداد العبسي، الحارث بن حلزة اليشكري، ميمون بن قيس الأعشى، زياد بن معاوية النابغة الذبياني، عبيد بن الأبرص الأسدي، وبالإضافة إلى قصائد هذه المعلقات فقد ضم الكتاب مجموعة من نوادر الأقوال والحكم، وقصص شعرائها.
