يحاول المؤلف أن يشق طريقا آخر لمسألة الحرية مستندا على الجمع بين القراءتين، قراءة الواقع الموضوعي والإشكالات المتعلقة بحرية الإنسان سواء في المنظومة الغربية أو في المنظومة الدينية التقليدية، وقراءة باسم الله ينطلق فيها من القرآن المهيمن والحاكم على جميع الشروحات والتفسيرات ومصادر التشريع الأخرى. ورغم تأسيسه لمفهوم الحرية من منطلق ديني، إلا أنه يحيل ذلك إلى تكوين الإنسان، ولكن ليس تكوينه المادي فقط، بل يتناول البعد الرابع في تكوين الأنسان الذي يشير إليه القرآن وهو البعد الروحي.
