رفاعة الطهطاوي علامة مميزة في التاريخ الحديث إطلع على الحضارة الأوربية وأنار الحياة العلمية والتعليمية المصرية، وفي هذا الكتاب نرى قبسا من أشعاره منها الشعر الذاتي والشعر الوطني والحب والحنين إلى بلده ووطنه مصر أو الإشادة بجند مصر وحاكمها الخديوي اسماعيل، كذلك نجد شعر الوصف لبعض المظاهر الحضارية الجديدة وأيضا الأشعار التى نظمها في مدح رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وفي مدح الأسرة الحاكمة أيضا الشعر المترجم وأخيرا الشعر التعليمي هذا إلى جانب سيرته ومكونات ثقافته وإطار الواقع الاجتماعي واللغوى له في دراسة نقدية وتحليلية له ولحياته.
