يهدف الكتاب تسليط الضوء على تاريخ تلك البلاد والسياسة الأمريكية المتبعة تجاهها وما عانته من تلك السياسة التي لا ذنب لها فيها سوى أنها كانت مجاورة للصين وفيتنام وهذان البلدان لديهما مشكلات مع الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكان الهدف المعلن للسياسة الأمريكية هو الحد من النفوذ الشيوعي في لاوس وتطرق الكتاب إلى أن الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية لم تقصد التورط في لاوس إلا إن حربها في فيتنام وانتقلت إلى ذلك البلد فقد تدخلت الإدارة الأمريكية في لاوس منذ عام 1954م.
