تكتسب المعرفة بالشأن الإيراني ثقافيا وسياسيا وتاريخيا أهمية مضاعفة بالنسبة للقارئ العربي في الوقت الحاضر. ويعود ذلك لأسباب عدة ليس أهونها القرب الجغرافي، والمشتركات المجتمعية، وربما التزاحم السياسي بين الجانبين. ولا شك في أن دراسة الأحوال الثقافية والفكرية والاقتصادية والسياسية التي أفضت إلى انتصار الثورة الإسلامية سنة 1979 من أهم ما ينبغي أن يستقطب عناية أي باحث أو مهتم بالظاهرة الإيرانية. وفي هذا السياق يتسنى القول بكل ثقة إن على شريعتي كان المثقف الأهم الذي أسهم في صناعة التيار الثوري المعارض بين شرائح الشباب الإسلامي واليساري. لذا تنبغي دراسته وترجمة أعماله وما كتب عنه كخطوة لازمة لمعرفة شطر مهم من الجذور والإرهاصات التي عاشتها إيران قبيل انتصار الثورة.
