يعد كتاب \"جبل الزيتون\" شهادة حية للكاتب التركي فالح رفقي أطاي على آخر أيام العثمانيين في الجبهة السورية الفلسطينية بالحرب العالمية الأولى، خلال فترة عمله كضابط مساعد الجمال باشا، قائد الجبهة، وأحد القادة الثلاثة الجمعية الاتحاد والترقي. ومن خلال روايته لذكرياته، يتناول الكاتب أهم أحداث تلك الفترة، ومحاولات جمال باشا الحفاظ على هذه المنطقة ضمن الأراضي العثمانية. بالإضافة إلى مذكرات ضابط عثماني خلال الرحلة الاستكشافية الأولى القناة السويس عام 1914، وحروب الصحراء والهجمات على غزة.
