تعتبر رواية جشمهايش من أهم الروايات الإيرانية، وأكثرها انتشارا، فقد نشرت في عهد حكومة مصدق، وهو العهد الذي شهد الكثير من الحريات. قد تكون شهرة هذه الرواية وسرعة انتشارها يعودان إلى وضوح الفترة الزمنية التي تدور فيها أحداثها، وهي فترة أوج قوة رضا شاه بهلوي، الفترة البغيضة من التاريخ الإيراني، انتشر فيها الاستبداد والديكتاتورية وأصبحت هذه الفترة بكل وقائعها وأحداثها جزءا من الوعي الجمعي والتاريخ السياسي والاجتماعي للإيرانيين.
