تقع أحداث الرواية خلال الحرب الإيرانية–العراقية (1980–1988)، وترصد معاناة المدنيين والجنود وسط رعب النزاع وبؤسه، بنبرة سردية قوية، ينقل دولتآبادي قسوة المعركة وآلام الطرفين، مع الانزياح التدريجي نحو سلوك فقدان الإنسانية، إذ يصبح الموت روتينا في يوميات السكان، يتناول القهر الاجتماعي والسياسي كجزء من \"معادلة الذبح\" اليومية، حيث يتساءل الراوي: لماذا تكون الرصاصة أقوى من إرادة الشخص ؟ الكتاب يقدم شهادة درامية مكثفة على حجم الكارثة الإنسانية، في نص يجمع بين التأثر الفني والتحليل الواقعي لعطب الحرب المعاصر.
