هذا الكاتب يحول حياة الناس البسطاء في كدهم وضنكهم وحبهم وآلامهم ومتعهم الحسية والروحية، بين يديه إلى قصائد حقيقية يسري فيها روح الشعر العميق دون أن تفقد واقعيتها. تتميز أعماله بسيطرة نوع من الحتمية عليها وفق منطق داخلي صارم دون تكلف أو افتعال، أو إملاء متعسف من الكاتب. يعبر عن حياة البسطاء في فلورنسا، ويسرد أكثر الأحداث سوقية واعتيادية، ولكن ينفث فيها روحا سرية غامضة مشوقة. ولد الكاتب فاسكو براتوليني في 19 أكتوبر 1913 من عائلة عمالية بفلورنسا، وتوفي أواخر سنة 1990. لم يذهب إلى مدرسة بل علم نفسه وتعلم من الحياة مباشرة، وعاش فعلا الخبرات التي يرويها في أعماله.
