يتوخى المقال تقديم قراءة نقدية لنظرية جديدة في تصنيف لغات العالم للساني الفرنسي (لويس جون كالفي)؟ أطلق عليها تسمية: بارومتر اللغات، واصطنع لها موقعا على الإنترنت العام 2010، بانيا إياها على مؤشرات توحي بالموضوعية والدقة في التصنيف. و كان من نتائج هذا البارومتر ان احتلت الفرنسية المرتبة الثانية والعربية المرتبة الثامنة؟ الأمر الذي دعا إلى اختبار مدى موضوعية ودقة هذا البارومتر، والتساؤل عم إذا كان يضمر خلفية إيديولوجية ولا سيما ان صاحب النظرية واحد من اهم منظري الفرانكفونية اليوم؟
