Overview
El texto investiga, en la prolífica obra de Eliécer Cárdenas, dos de sus temáticas cardinales: la saga de bandoleros y la novela histórica. La primera contiene su fábula más famosa, Polvo y ceniza, y varias otras sobre bandoleros justicieros estilo Naún Briones y aun desalmados como Arnoldo Cueva y sus también malvados exterminadores como el mayor Deifilio Morocho, además de novelas sobre los ladrones de levita, tal la de Rafles y las menciones del Águila Quiteña. La novela histórica comprende cinco ficciones sobre figuras como Bolívar, monseñor González Suárez, actores de la conquista y de la independencia, incluso la farsesca y divertida trama de varios escritores complotados para robar la novela de otro. El conjunto destaca la enorme calidad literaria de Eliécer Cárdenas.
