Overview
A method for solving the Boltzmann equation is presented that makes it possible to calculate gas flows in the continuum flow regime described by the Navier–Stokes equations. Progress into the region of continuum flows was achieved by applying the conservative projection method for calculating the Boltzmann collision integral, which preserves the leading term of the Enskog–Chapman asymptotics. Optimization of this method that made it possible to considerably decrease the amount of computations is described. Examples of the longitudinal subsonic flow around a flat plate for the case of the Knudsen numbers are discussed.
