Overview
The poor filtration properties of graphene oxide (GO) membrane limit its application in industry. Graphene oxide/polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) membranes were prepared by vacuum filtering layer-by-layer assembly method on a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) substrate membrane. The adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherm and permeation performance of tetracycline (TC) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) in aqueous solution on the GO/PS-DVB/PAN membranes were investigated. The results revealed that the adsorption of two antibiotics fitted well with pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Langmuir isothermal adsorption model, with the maximum adsorption capacities of 22.79 and 46.69 mg g
−1
for TC and CIP, respectively. The adsorption process was dominated by chemical adsorption. The results of membrane permeability showed that GO/PS-DVB/PAN membrane had high water flux, and the retention rate of antibiotics reached 100%. A high performance liquid chromatography method for determination of antibiotics was also established and the methodology was investigated. The GO/PS-DVB/PAN membrane has broad application prospect for removing antibiotics from water.
