تحاول هذه الدراسة تناول الأوضاع في البحر الأحمر من خلال الوثائق العثمانية. والحال أنه يوجد عدد كبير من تلك الوثائق في الأرشيف العثماني، ذات صلة بالبحر الأحمر. ومما لا شك فيه فإن هذا العدد الكبير من الوثائق العثمانية يعكس مدى الأهمية التي كان يحوز عليها البحر الأحمر لدى الدولة العثمانية. ويتمثل الهدف الأساسي من هذه الدراسة في عرض الوثائق العثمانية باعتبارها مصدرا جديدا للبحر الأحمر. وقد تناولنا في هذه الدراسة مواضيع مختلفة في السياسة والاقتصاد والمجتمع.
